Reach Summer Scholarship - 2008

The REACH Foundation awarded scholarships to a record high of thirteen Suffern High School underclassmen who participated in summer programs that exemplified this organization's goals of academic excellence, leadership and community service.

A SHS Sophmore received $1,010 towards transportation expenses associated with his unpaid summer internship, researching Molecular Imaging & Neuropothy.
Another HS Junior received an $850 award toward the ECOES: Exploring Career Options in Engineering & Science summer program.
A HS Junior received $800 toward attendance at the Congressional Student Leadership Conference on Medicine & Healthcare.
A HS Freshman received $900 towards attendance at the Johns Hopkins CTY Computer Science Program.
Another HS Freshman received $200 towards attendance at Johns Hopkings CTY Time Management Program.
A HS Sophmore was awarded $200 towards attendance at Brown University's "Putting Ideas Into Words" program, where students learn to use writing as means of thinking, learning, problem solving & communicating.
A HS Sophmore received a $200 award toward the EDGE: Educating Girls for Engineering Program, where she will use engineering tools to develop materials for disabled children at rehab centers.
Another Sophmore received $180 towards participation in the Visions Service Adventures - Peru program, where she will participate in construction-based and other service work in an impoverished community.
Two Sophmore students received awards of $180 each towards their participation in the Urban Mitzvah Corps program, a 6-week program focused on social justice.
Two Freshman students received awards of $100 each to attend the Cornell Team Concept Wrestling and West Point Swim programs. These students are involved with sports-based community service.
A HS Junior received $100 towards attendance at the NY Film Academy Summer Program.

Reach Summer Scholarship - 2007

The REACH Foundation awarded scholarships to four Suffern High School underclassmen who participated in summer programs that exemplified this organization's goals of academic excellence, leadership and community service.

One SHS Freshman received $590 to attend the Springfield College Athletic Training Workshop. The knowledge gained about injury prevention & care will help this student with his volunteer DARE hockey coaching.
Another HS Junior received an $800 award toward two college-level economics classes. This student plans to study economics & marketing, and is currently involved in multiple community service organizations.
A HS Sophomore received $300 toward an Eastern Europe & Israel travel-study program which included community service programs with Lifeline for the Old & Table to Table.
A HS Sophomore received $900 toward a student ambassador program focused on cultural & lifestyle sharing across nations.

Reach Summer Scholarship - 2006

The REACH Foundation awarded scholarships to five Suffern High School underclassmen who participated in summer programs that exemplified this organization's goals of academic excellence, leadership and community service.

One High School junior was awarded a matching scholarship to participate in service projects in Panama, focusing on sustainable agriculture and reforestation along with cultural enrichment.
Another student received $100 toward the National Youth Forum on Medicine program.
A SHS freshman was awarded $500 to attend a program focusing on enhanced musical performance skills.
Another student received $300 towards a community service course at a major university.
A SHS junior interested in becoming a Physical Education teacher was awarded funds towards a competitive baseball program.

Reach Summer Scholarship - 2005

The REACH Foundation awarded scholarships to two Suffern High School underclassmen who participated in summer programs that exemplified this organization's goals of academic excellence, leadership and community service.

One High School freshman was awarded $500 to attend the People to People trip to Australia and New Zealand as a Student Ambassador with a group of 30-40 for 2-3 weeks.
Another student was awarded $500 to participate in an internship with Jeffrey Miner, Ph.D., a university professor of Aquatic Ecology. The student will stay at Stone Laboratories on an island near the western shore of Lake Erie for two weeks where the student will help undergraduate students collect and catalog samples from the lake, and develop hypotheses as to why the water level in Lake Erie is decreasing.

Reach Summer Scholarship Past Recipients - 2004

One High School student was awarded $400 towards a running a community service project through the 92nd Street Y.
Another student was awarded $200 to participate in the Brighton Cultural Immersion program in Costa Rica.
A Suffern HS was awarded $400 to participate in a community service project in the pacific.
A Suffern HS was awarded $200 to participate in a community service and cultural immersion project in Costa Rica.
A Suffern HS student involved in STIR was awarded $400 to participate in a Cornell University research project.
A Suffern HS was awarded $200 to participate in summer program at the Bergen Academy of Music.

Reach Summer Scholarship Past Recipients - 2003

One High School freshman was awarded $400 towards a University enrichment program in which she studied community service.
Another freshman was awarded $400 towards a university program at Oxford University, which focused on cultural exchange and leadership.
The first Suffern HS student to participate in a Presidential Classroom in Washington, DC was a junior, who received $400 from REACH towards that program.
Two High School sophomores were also scholarship recipients; $400 was awarded to a young woman who attended the National Youth Leadership Forum of Medicine at Georgetown University, and $200 was awarded to a sophomore who volunteered at Nyack Hospital and our local soup kitchen while taking a college-level psychology course.

Note: All of the recipients participated in local community service programs. This community service orientation factored heavily in our decision making process.
