Driver's Education

The REACH Foundation is proud to be the catalyst in bringing Driver’s Education to Suffern High School for Ramapo Central students. This 16-week program provides 24 hours of classroom instruction by a NYS certified teacher who is also certified in driver’s education, combined with 24 hours of behind-the-wheel training and observation, in specially equipped automobiles.
Providing driver’s education at SHS is very convenient for Ramapo Central parents who need not transport their children to an off-site program.
In addition to educating a new generation of safer drivers, this program provides significant discounts with most insurers. The focus of the driver’s education program is to teach safe driving techniques. Students must be 16 years old with a valid learner’s permit to participate in the driver’s education program. The program will be offered three times per year, in the Fall, Spring and Summer.
Students who complete this accredited driver’s education program are eligible to change their class DJ junior license to a class D senior license at age 17. (Unless an accredited driver’s education program is completed through a high school or college, junior license restrictions remain in effect until age 18.)
